If you’re ready to address stubborn cellulite, it’s important to work with doctors and injectors who truly understand your frustrations and support your goals. Dr. Ran Rubinstein of Laser & Cosmetic Surgery Specialists in Newburgh, NY leads a team of professionals ready to help you move forward with a customized treatment plan.
What is Cellulite?

Cellulite describes areas of dimpled, bumpy skin caused by fat and connective tissue. While it’s not hazardous to your health, it can be frustrating to deal with when you’re doing your best to eat right and exercise regularly.
The cause of cellulite lies right under the skin. Connective tissues that bind the skin to the underlying muscle create a small field where the fat normally occurs on the buttocks and thighs. As fat develops, it pushes up between the fibrous bands of connective tissue and creates bumps, often referred to as an “orange peel” texture.
Cellulite is more common in women than men and generally develops around the thighs and bottom. Genetics can increase your risk of developing cellulite, as can menopause. Weight gain can lead to deeper dimples, but weight loss will generally not do much to reduce the appearance of these bumps.
What is QWO Treatment?
QWO is an injectable cosmetic treatment made with the chemical collagenase clostridium histolyticum-aaes. The treatment is FDA-approved and is considered very safe. Once injected, this product dissolves the fibers that tether skin to muscle and create bumps on the surface of the skin.
Each QWO treatment consists of three separate shots in the targeted area. It is common to have bruising and possibly soreness after each treatment.
It’s important to note that there are many lotions and creams that claim to reduce the appearance of cellulite by getting rid of lumps and bumps and firming up your skin. While you may find a moisturizer that makes your skin feel smoother, any product that could penetrate the skin to break down these connective tissues would be quite damaging. Topicals do not offer a long-term fix for this condition.
Preparing for QWO Treatment
Your QWO treatments will require little to no preparation. If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, you will need to wait until your baby arrives to undergo this procedure. While the risks of any injection include infection, the medical professionals at Dr. Rubinstein’s office will take all the necessary precautions to prevent this.
Make sure to stay well-hydrated prior to your treatment. As much as possible, stick to a healthy diet of lean meats to reduce your fat intake, whole grains to keep your gut and cleansing organs working well, and fresh fruits and veggies to boost your antioxidant levels.
QWO Treatment Recovery
Your QWO treatment will take less than an hour. After the injections, you can easily go right back to your day.
There may be some soreness after the treatment and bruising is common with the first session. In order to minimize bruising and discomfort, we recommend refraining from strenuous physical activity for 48 hours and wearing a compression garment for 4 days post injection.
Many of the professionals who inject this product find that there is less bruising and soreness after each of the three shots in the series. The initial injection may take a longer recovery time than subsequent injections.
Your QWO Consultation
It’s important to ensure that QWO injections are right for you before booking your treatment. A consultation in Newburgh, NY, will help you determine if the treatment will allow you to reach your individual goals.
During your consultation, you’ll be asked about your health history, goals, and expectations. It’s also a great time to ask any questions or address any concerns you may have about the treatment. Our staff will give you all the information you need to make a treatment decision.
Complementary Procedures
As you target your cellulite, you may also choose to undergo other therapies to address similar concerns. There are both invasive and non-invasive therapies that can reduce the appearance and/or concentration of fat under the skin.
Non-surgical choices include:
- EMSculpt, which slims down the body and boosts visible muscle
- CoolSculpting, which can be used to eliminate fat in both the body and the chin
- Thermage, which uses radiofrequency to tighten skin and underlying tissues
- Secret RF, which is microneedling with radiofrequency that can improve the appearance of skin laxity
If you are considering a surgical procedure for reducing stubborn fat, such as liposuction, you may want to wait on your QWO procedure to make sure that you get the targeted injections exactly where they need to go.
It’s important to note that liposuction is effective in removing unwanted fat but is not necessarily helpful for reducing the appearance of cellulite. Cellulite is strongly tied to those connective tissues that run from muscle to the top layer of skin. Reducing the concentration of fat under the skin will slim down your physique, but it may not improve your cellulite.
Plan to Celebrate You in Your Post-QWO Life!
Make sure you have a bit of fun in planning for your post-QWO wardrobe and activity choices. If you have been wearing a skirted bathing suit to cover the orange peel texture of your bottom, check out new suits online. If your yoga outfit includes a long tee to cover up when wearing leggings and yoga pants, find a pretty tank or sports bra you can enjoy pairing with your leggings.
Cellulite is not an indication of obesity. This fat is simply poorly distributed and QWO treatments will greatly improve this distribution. The fat that lives on the hips and thighs of the female body is normal and natural. It’s not a failing of your food choices or an indication that you aren’t working out effectively.
QWO FAQs
The injections don’t really dissolve tissue. They dissolve the micro-connecting fibers that run between the muscles under your skin and the top tissue. Instead of pulling against the tissues and creating bumps, the fat under the skin will smooth out and the dimpled look of cellulite will relax.
QWO is administered via an injection, so there will be a small pinch. Our experienced injectors use very tiny needles for your comfort. The procedure is extremely well tolerated!
There is a rare risk of an allergic reaction to the collagenase clostridium histolyticum-aaes. If you are highly allergic to other products, you may need to discuss your risk with your primary care physician and Dr. Rubinstein. Getting tested before you start your injections can reduce the risk.
The standard QWO treatment is a series of three injections with a 21-day break between each appointment. Depending on your personal situation and goals, you may need to schedule multiple treatment series to reduce the dimples and bumps that show up under leggings and bathing suits.
At your consultation appointment, we will discuss your areas of concern to develop a customized treatment plan. Treatment areas can include the buttocks and thighs depending on your distribution of cellulite.
