If you suffer from excessive sweat, there’s really no time of year that is comfortable.
Producing an excess of sweat can be embarrassing, but it becomes especially bad when it’s hot and humid outside.
The summertime is a sweaty time for most people, but for those with hyperhidrosis, it can be unbearable.
While most body-related plastic surgeries deal with contouring the body or removing fat cells, the underarm sweat treatment is a truly unique procedure that can offer big benefits to just the right patient.
What Is Hyperhidrosis and Who Has It?
Hyperhidrosis literally means “too much water” and it indicates a condition in which men and women have overactive sweat glands, usually under the arms. Uncontrollable sweat can be extremely embarrassing or inconvenient, no matter how much you try to address this problem on your own. Normal deodorants won’t hold up for a patient with hyperhidrosis, not even with multiple applications per day.
Both men and women can suffer from hyperhidrosis, often worsening with age. An average person will produce about 1 milliliter of sweat every hour. A man or woman with hyperhidrosis will excrete as much as three times that amount, soaking through shirts and appearing visibly sweaty and damp. Some patients may also experience sweating in the hands, feet, and face.
How Can Hyperhidrosis Be Treated?
When stronger, clinical deodorants fail, many patients don’t know where to turn. Some may start wearing armpit sweat pads to hide the condition and absorb the excess sweat. In other cases, Botox injections can be used to temporarily control excess sweating, but with limited results.
The most effective treatment is vaporization, a laser-based procedure that burns the sweat glands to control sweat production. The laser procedure will actually treat the soft tissue, reduce the liquid produced in the sweat glands, and remove some of the glands completely. Your results will appear gradually as the sweat glands cease producing and your body regulates to a more normal production level.
When Should I Plan a Hyperhidrosis Treatment?
Under arm sweat treatments can be performed at any time of the year that is convenient for you. Full results of the treatment can take months to become noticeable, but the recovery period is very short. It may be a smart move to plan your hyperhidrosis treatment as soon as possible. Most patients will see a dramatic improvement in the quantity of sweat produced within six months of their laser treatment. Start now for results that will gradually improve throughout the summer and into the fall.
