Life might be more fun in the summer, when the weather is warm and there’s plenty of time to go to the beach or hang out by the pool. But summer also comes with its own set of beauty problems. When it’s hot, you’re likely to sweat more. Wearing shorts and short skirts or a swimsuit can make you feel self-conscious about unwanted hair. And additional sun exposure can make cosmetic problems like spider veins worse.
No matter what your summer beauty problems are, there is a nonsurgical treatment out there that can help you banish them for good.
Banish Sweat with Botox or Lasers
For some people, sweating isn’t a big deal. They can control underarm sweat with a few swipes of antiperspirant and they don’t find themselves soaking their shirts in the heat of summer.
Other people have a condition known as hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating. For people with hyperhidrosis, no antiperspirant is strong enough to stop the sweating. Excess sweating can lead to embarrassment, as well as higher than average laundry bills and, in some cases, ruined clothing.
If you think you sweat a lot in the summer or throughout the year, there is a way to stop the sweat without buying out the deodorant aisle. Botox, the injection commonly used to help reduce wrinkles, is also approved for excessive sweating. When injected into the sweat glands in the underarm area, it keeps the glands from receiving certain signals. As a result, those glands don’t produce sweat. You’re left with dry armpits. The results from Botox usually last about six months.
Another way to control excessive summer sweat is with a laser treatment. While Botox injections temporarily switch off the sweat glands, laser treatment gets rid of them completely. Usually, results are seen from the laser treatment after a few months. Since the sweat glands are gone for good, results are usually permanent.
Eliminate Unwanted Hair with Lasers
Laser treatments not only help control excessive sweating, they can also help control unwanted hair growth.
Unwanted hair is a problem that plaques both men and women. Fortunately, laser hair removal is a suitable option for both. While older forms of laser treatment were only appropriate for people with lighter complexions, newer technologies mean that the procedure can be performed on patients of all skin types.
Depending on the size of the area you want treated and how your hair is growing, you might need multiple treatments before you see full results from laser hair removal. The treatment only removes hairs that are in the active growing phase. The energy from the laser destroys the active hair follicle, so new growth won’t occur. Many people see the results they want after four treatments spaced about a month apart. Once the hair is gone, it is gone for good.
Say Good-bye to Spider Veins
While spider veins aren’t exclusively a summer beauty problem, a few summer related things might make them more of a concern during the warmer months. One is the location of the veins.
Spider veins usually form on the legs and on the face. If you’re wearing long pants or thick tights for much of the year, you might not really think about your veins or be bothered by them. But when the time comes to put on a pair of shorts, you might feel self-conscious.
Another part of summer that can make spider veins more of a problem is the fact that sun exposure can make them worse. Although it’s always a good idea to wear sunscreen, if you go out without covering up you might notice that veins that weren’t very noticeable before seem larger and redder.
The good news is that spider veins are usually only a cosmetic issue and are usually easy to treat. One way to eliminate spider veins from your face or legs is with laser therapy. Laser treatment can help remove veins that are up to 4 mm in diameter.
During treatment, the veins absorb the energy from the lasers. The heat and energy destroys the veins so that they end up collapsing and fading away. How long the treatment takes to work depends in large part on the size of the veins. Smaller spider veins, such as those on the face, often vanish within a few days. It can take a few weeks before larger veins on the legs fully fade from view.
