Restore Your Toned Body with a Mommy Makeover
The U.S. Office on Women’s Health states that most women lose 10 pounds after giving birth. This weight loss includes the weight of the placenta and fluid gain during pregnancy. That’s only the start of the issues that women face after having children. Some women seem to bounce back into shape quickly, while others eat right, work out, and see little improvements. When diet and exercise are not helping you, consider body plastic surgery.
After childbirth, women often list a range of complaints about their post-pregnancy bodies. You may find the skin on the abdomen that stretched to make room for the growing fetus now sags and is covered in stretch marks. The weight of breast milk and excess fluids during and after pregnancy can also make your breasts droop towards the belly button, and the size of the areola can grow, too. You are probably seeing cellulite developing on your buttocks, hips, and thighs. The good news is that the mommy makeover helps restore your pre-pregnancy form.
Components of a Mommy Makeover
Mid-Hudson Valley plastic surgeon Dr. Rubinstein finds that women interested in a mommy makeover typically undergo these procedures: abdominoplasty, breast surgery, and liposuction. They can be performed separately or in combination. Healing times vary, but expect to need at least a week to recover at home, and you will need someone else to lift and carry your child while you heal.
Abdominoplasty is the professional term for a tummy tuck. During a tummy tuck, the plastic surgeon makes an incision along your public line from one hip bone to the other. The skin and abdominal wall are separated, making room for the surgeon to remove excess fat and tighten the abdominal muscles. Another incision is made around the belly button, and the surgeon trims excess skin and moves the navel to the ideal location. The incisions are closed and drains are put in place to help the body expel excess fluids while you heal.
Breast surgeries are another component of a mommy makeover. Choices include a breast lift, a breast augmentation, or both. With a breast lift, you do not change the size of your breast. Instead, incisions are made around the breast contours and the areola. The skin of the breast is pulled upwards and the nipple and areola are shifted to a natural, more elevated and youthful position. If you are planning to have additional children, be aware that any improvements made with a breast lift will change with each additional pregnancy. A breast augmentation adds size to the breast by inserting a silicone or saline gel breast implant through a small incision in the armpit, around the nipple, or just below the breast.
Liposuction removes stubborn fat deposits from your abdomen, buttocks, hips, and thighs. SmartLipo uses laser to melt the fatty deposits. After the fat melts, a cannula is inserted into the skin to suction it out. SmartLipo is gentler and less traumatic on the body than a traditional liposuction. There’s an additional benefit to this method. While the laser melts the fat cells, it also stimulates collagen production, and that helps tighten your skin.
