Rhinoplasty is truly a transformative surgery. Though sometimes changes may only equate to millimeters of materials added or removed from the structure, the central location of the nose within the midface and the fact that it projects away from the facial plane creates a standard focal point.
Cosmetic nose surgery can transform the face in a number of ways.
Nasal Tip Modification
A refined nasal tip, especially one that was droopy, can draw attention to the lips. The space between the lips and nose may appear to increase after rhinoplasty, but if the patient prefers, Dr. Rubinstein can take efforts to minimize this. If the lips could benefit from more volume, injectable fillers such as Radiesse, Sculptra, Perlane, Restylane and Juvederm can plump them, creating attractive contours. A droopy nasal tip can also cause the face to look downturned, and through a surgical lift, the face may appear refreshed.
Chin Enlargement
A nose with a shorter nasal tip can place more focus on the chin and cause it to appear more prominent than before the surgery. From a profile view, both the nose and chin angle away from the face. Some patients undergoing rhinoplasty also opt to have a dual procedure that includes chin augmentation, commonly referred to as profileplasty when both techniques are performed at the same time. Typically, augmenting the chin is performed with a chin implant, though the doctor can also modify the procedure, creating a non-surgical version through dermal filler injections.
Cheek Enhancement
A large nose may also be wide, covering a greater area of the face than the patient feels is attractive. The nose can be narrowed through osteotomies, where the nasal bones are first subjected to a controlled fracture, then are positioned in a more desirable location. A wide nose can take away from sculpted cheekbones, which can be restored following rhinoplasty. A patient may enjoy this newly emphasized area of the face so much that he or she can decide to further modify the cheeks. Cheek augmentation can be performed through the surgical fixation of cheek implants or dermal injections to the area.
