Given the attention that 17-year-old Kylie Jenner got about her lips last year, it’s not much of a surprise that one of the trendiest plastic surgeries in 2015 was lip implants. Lip injections, using temporary fillers, were also popular last year and continue to be popular. According to data from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, there were 27,000 lip augmentations performed in 2015, which works out to about one every 20 minutes. The number of injections performed has increased dramatically in recent years – according to the ASPS’s data, the number of injections given has increased by more than 1,000 percent since 2000.
Fillers often used for lip injections include Juvederm and Restylane. Both are made from hyaluronic acid and provide lift and volume for several months. If wrinkles above the lips are a concern, too, treatment with Botox can help smooth them out, temporarily.
Plenty of people requesting lip injections are looking to celebs for inspiration. While not every celeb has had injections, in some cases, the differences before and after are dramatic.
Kylie Jenner Lip Injections
Kylie Jenner, the younger sister of Kim Kardashian, created a lot of buzz last year when she suddenly appeared in photos with fuller lips. The teen model firsts denied having any injections, and claimed to have created a fuller lip look using just makeup. That didn’t stop people from lining up to recreate her style at their local facial plastic surgeon’s. Some even tried a DIY way of getting their lips fuller, which involved sucking on a cup to create suction and plump up the lips, and led to a bit of an Internet panic. The DIY “Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge” was pretty dangerous, as it could lead to bruising, scarring, and cuts.
That’s why it was good news when Kylie admitted that she got lip injections. She stated that her lips were long something she felt self conscious about and that she begged her mom to let her get the treatments. Since owning up to the injections, she’s paved the way for others to safely plump up their lips, without trying a dangerous “lip challenge.”
Scarlett Johansson Lip Injections
Is it much of a surprise that lips like Scarlett Johansson’s is another popular request at plastic surgeon’s offices? Although Scarlett Johansson has most likely not had lip injections herself (her lips look pretty much the same in photos from when she was just 12-years-old and starting her career to photos of her in her 30s), her look is one of the most frequently requested by patients.
It’s fairly easy to see why. A common concern among people thinking about lip augmentaton is looking too overdone or ending up with a ducky pout. Scar-Jo’s lips are plump, but even and look very natural.
Jennifer Lawrence Lip Injections
Down-to-earth, outspoken and successful. It’s not much of a surprise many women want to be like young actor Jennifer Lawrence. In fact, her pout is the one most commonly requested by people looking for lip augmentation. Although you can see some changes in the shape of Lawrence’s mouth if you look at pictures of her early in her career compared to now, the actress hasn’t said yes or no about whether she’s had lip injections herself.
Jennifer Garner Lip Injections
For awhile there, Jennifer Garner seemed to have everything. A thriving movie career, marriage to a Hollywood heart throb (Ben Affleck) and great looks when over 40. While the marriage might be over, her career is still going strong, and her look is another one that people considering lip fillers often request. Garner seems to be one of the lucky ones. If you look at pictures of her at the start of her career, when she first landed the role of Sydney in the TV show Alias, her lips look full, plump and natural. The same is true when you take a look at pictures of her now, even though she’s over 40 and people’s lips tend to thin as they age.
