Is laser skin resurfacing performed with anesthesia? What kind?
The only time that laser skin resurfacing requires anesthesia is if it is the ablative type, where the skin is actually removed with the laser. Most laser treatments today are non ablative, where a series of non invasive laser treatments are performed to accomplish a rejuvenated result. In these cases, usually only topical anesthesia is required. In the ablative form, we perform the procedure in our operating room with the aid of local anesthesia and some cases sedation when needed.
