The Procedure

Smart liposuction (Smartlipo)  is done under local anesthesia (you're awake during the procedure) on an outpatient basis in Dr. Rubinstein's office operating room, a tiny incision is made, about the size of the tip of a pen, the Smart liposuction (Smartlipo) laser fiber is inserted through a very small tube into your body, the laser ruptures the fat cell membranes, the fat cells are permanently destroyed, The liquefied fat is then gently suctioned out. New collagen is produced resulting in coagulation of skin, resulting in tightening.  Typically, only one treatment is required dependent on the number of areas to be treated. Results may vary, but usually can be seen within a week, with continued improvement over three to six months.

Typically, only one treatment is required dependent on the number of areas to be treated. Results may vary, but usually can be seen within a week, with continued improvement over three to six months.  For patients who are consulting about Smart liposuction (Smartlipo) of the face and neck, additional procedures may be recommended.  Patients with poor skin tone may also receive a recommendation of a neck lift.  The neck line or facial profile may also be further enhanced by chin augmentation in those patients with an under projected chin.  Using video imaging, Dr. Rubinstein can provide his patients with a better understanding of how Smart liposuction (Smartlipo) and other procedures can change their appearance naturally.

Recovery

Recovery from Smart liposuction (Smartlipo) is relatively easy. With the newer technique of powered liposuction, one can expect far less swelling and bruising which traditionally would last greater than to two weeks. Results are recognizable almost immediately and will continue to improve as swelling subsides. Routine normal activities are resumed after 2 to 4 days. Exercise and vigorous work is resumed in 7 to 10 days.
