Rhinoplasty
What is Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty is a plastic surgery procedure which can improve the cosmetic appearance of the nose by changing the shape or size of the nose or addressing common problems like a nasal hump, a bulbous tip, a saddle nose deformity and more. The breathing and function of the nose can be addressed as well by correcting nasal obstructions. When correcting the nasal function, some or all of the surgery may be covered by insurance.
Dr. Rubinstein commonly used IV sedation when performing rhinoplasty in his New York certified surgical suite. Depending on the changes that need to be made, the surgery may be performed using a closed or open technique. All incisions are made on the inside of the nose with closed rhinoplasty while open rhinoplasty involves an additional small incision made on the skin between the nostrils. Small incisions may also be made at the base of the nostrils when performing nostril reduction. During surgery, the desired shape is achieved by rearranging, removing or augmenting the underlying bone and cartilage.
Patients can expect some swelling and bruising after their rhinoplasty surgery. Most of the bruising begins to fade after a few days and should be resolved after two weeks. Discomfort may also occur and can be managed with medication. The nasal splint is removed after one week and patients can generally return to work within one to two weeks.
For some patients, non-surgical rhinoplasty with the use of injectable fillers may be appropriate. This has the advantage of providing immediate results with no downtime, though the procedure will need to be repeated to maintain the results. Dr. Rubinstein will be happy to meet with you for a consultation in his New York office to discuss your rhinoplasty needs.
