Browlift – The Procedure
The brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, is a plastic surgery procedure which restores a smoother, more youthful appearance to the forehead area by elevating the eyebrows and minimizing forehead furrows and ridges. This is an ideal procedure for individuals with aging conditions around the forehead, including frown lines and low or heavy brows.
At Laser & Cosmetic Surgery Specialists,
The brow lift is typically performed with local anesthesia and sedation or general anesthesia and may take anywhere from one to two hours to complete on average. For a traditional brow lift, the incision is located just behind the hairline across the top of the head. For an endoscopic brow lift, three to five short incisions are made behind the hairline and a small camera device known as an endoscope is used. Working through the incisions, Dr. Rubinstein will elevate the forehead and brows and remove excess skin and tissue before closing the incisions.
Complications are generally rare with the brow lift, but as with any surgery there are potential risks. These may include adverse anesthesia reactions, bleeding, scarring, asymmetry, nerve injury and infection.
Following your doctor’s advice before and after surgery can help to minimize your risks.
After Surgery: What to Expect
Some swelling and bruising can be expected after surgery and this typically resolves within a few weeks. Patients may also experience some temporary numbness and discomfort. You may be advised to apply cold compresses and perform eye exercises to help minimize swelling and regain mobility. Bandages are usually removed within a day or two and stitches are removed within one week. Most patients are able to return to work within one to two weeks. Recovery is typically milder following an endoscopic brow lift and patients may be able to return to work sooner.
